Rochelle Elise Photography is the Official Photographer for Leading Moms 2018.

Rochelle Elise Pianalto has a natural light in-home studio located in the Cambie Village area, Vancouver, BC, Canada. She photographs on location in many indoor and outdoor settings around the lower mainland and Fraser Valley – specializing in maternity, newborn, baby, child, and family portrait photography. In 2012, Rochelle began full-time work as a child and family photographer. Prior to this, she worked part-time as a photographer, while running a performing Arts School, producing many children and teen musicals. She has found many similarities between the art of theatre production and photography. And yes, you will hear her freely singing away to your young children during your session.

Rochelle has her degree in Psychology and spent many years working with adults and children with special needs. She specialized in child speech development issues and therapy for young children with autism. She is a mother (to a 16 yr old boy), and Auntie to 6 gorgeous nieces and nephews; all of these miraculous children have been her daily inspiration and led her to a wonderful career.

Kama Jones: 2018 Ambassador

Kama is a mom, blogger and teacher in bustling Surrey BC. Ethigal Blog shares lifestyle, family and travel inspo for the conscious community woman. She has over a decade of work experience with non-profits, businesses + destination marketing.
Early in her career as a teacher, she began working with at-risk youth, which inspired her MA in Community Development + Adult Education. Her travels to Kenya with Red Rose Tea + Me to We, and Rwanda with Because I am A Girl + smartwater provided powerful opportunities to learn first-hand about corporate social responsibility + women’s cooperatives. These trips also served as media boot camp with interviews on CBC Radio, CTV, + Elle Canada. Because of all this, Kama was named UNICEF Educator of the Year and Vancouver Island 20 Under 40.

Even though Kama’s passport is chock full of stamps, things have changed a bit since becoming a mom. How can I love my partner but not want sex? Is it normal that I’d rather Netflix binge than do the horizontal shuffle with my beau? Is it weird that my intimacy bucket gets filled from the love and cuddles of my kids, that I don’t need this from my lover? These are common, normal, and often distressing questions women face, yet, they rarely seek help for sexual concerns. In this talk we will have a no-nonsense, no-holds-barred conversation and exploration into the nature of women’s sexual desire.

Dr. Lori Brotto is a Professor in the UBC Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and a Registered Psychologist.  She is the Executive Director of the Women’s Health Research Institute at BC Women’s Hospital. Dr. Brotto holds a Canada Research Chair in Women’s Sexual Health. She is the director of the UBC Sexual Health Laboratory where research primarily focuses on advancing the science of psychological and mindfulness-based interventions for women’s sexual health.

Dr. Brotto is an Associate Editor for the Archives of Sexual Behavior, has over 150 peer-reviewed publications, is passionate about knowledge translation, and as such, is frequently featured in the media on sexual health topics. Her book, Better Sex Through Mindfulness: How Women Can Cultivate Desire (Greystone Publishing) is a knowledge translation of her research over the past 15 years demonstrating the benefits of mindfulness for women’s sexual concerns and genital pain.

Apart from these academic roles, her most impressive achievements including birthing three children, now aged 13, 12, and 8, and still being married after 18 years.

Annie Grace – Video Presenter

Annie Grace is the author of This Naked Mind: Control Alcohol, Find Freedom, Discover Happiness & Change Your Life. Annie grew up in a one-room log cabin without running water or electricity outside of Aspen, Colorado. She discovered a passion for marketing and after graduating with a Masters of Science (Marketing) she dove into corporate life. At the age of 26, Annie was the youngest vice president in a multinational company, and her drinking career began in earnest. At 35, in a global C-level marketing role, she was responsible for marketing in 28 countries and drinking almost two bottles of wine a night.

Knowing she needed a change but unwilling to submit to a life of deprivation and stigma, Annie set out to find a painless way to regain control. Annie no longer drinks and has never been happier. She left her executive role to write this book and share This Naked Mind with the world.

In her free time, Annie loves to ski, travel (26 countries and counting), and enjoy her beautiful family. Annie lives with her husband and three children in the Colorado mountains.

Gender imbalance and racism have been a driving force in Lotte Davis’s life ever since she grew up in Africa in the 50’s. Now she’s building schools in Africa and providing scholarships for girls in an effort to create change. Learn how one woman can start a multiplier effect that will ultimately impact tens of thousands of people.

Lotte Davis is the Co-Founder of AG Hair, the only manufacturer of professional hair care products in Canada, with distribution in over 15,000 salons and beauty stores across North America, Australia, Central America, South America and Taiwan.In addition to building her company into a well-renowned and respected beauty brand, Davis has worked tirelessly to demonstrate that AG Hair cares. Having grown up in the dawn of the apartheid movement in South Africa, she was acutely aware of the legacy of mistreatment and lack of opportunities for women in particular.

In 2008, she began building schools for girls in some of the poorest regions in Africa with funding from AG Hair promotions and AG’s salon partners. In 2013, she developed her own NGO called One Girl Can expanding the scope of the work she does in Africa to include scholarships for girls to secondary and post secondary schools.

She continues to build infrastructure at these schools to create more dynamic learning environments, and now mentors and coaches thousands of girls each year to help them realize their potential through goal setting and confidence building. Since 2008, Lotte has raised more than $3.4 million, is building her sixth school in Africa, and provides scholarships for over 235 girls in university and secondary school.

Lotte is the 2016 winner of the YWCA Women of Distinction award for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Shauna Elton & Artists: Contemporary Dance Performance

Performance Title: Amae | “No matter how wide she stretched her arms, the amount that she loved us was beyond her reach. It could not be quantified or contained. It was ten thousand named things in the Tao Te Ching’s universe and then ten thousand more. Her love was full throated and all-encompassing and unadorned. Every day she blew through her entire reserve.”

Shauna Elton is a professional contemporary dance teacher, choreographer and performer; who has taught professionally, performed and choreographed across Canada and internationally.

Having studied in Thailand and India she is a certified yoga instructor with a long standing meditation practice. She holds Mindset workshops that focus on reducing anxiety while increasing a sense of wellbeing and body awareness. Her interests in whole body health bridge into nutrition and she holds a certificate as a Holistic nutritionist.

She continues to teach dance and perform professionally; and is based in Vancouver with her husband and two daughters.

Dr. Lara Boyd: Neuroscientist & UBC Professor

In her talk Dr Boyd will discuss how learning changes the brain during education, being a woman in science and (trying) to balance the demands of work, life and family.

Dr. Lara Boyd is the Canada Research Chair in Neurobiology of Motor Learning, a Michael Smith Foundation for Health Career Investigator, a Peter Wall Scholar, and a Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy, at the University of British Columbia.

She is a Neuroscientist and Physical Therapist. Dr. Boyd directs the Brain Behaviour Lab at the University of British Columbia and has published over 130 peer-reviewed papers. Her work is centered on answering the question of what limits, and what facilitates, neuroplasticity.

Dr. Boyd also serves as the Health Research Advisor to the Vice President for Research at UBC and is UBC’s delegate to the Canadians Institutes for Health Research.

Dr. Deborah Bell is a registered psychologist who has specialized in empowering children and parents for over 18 years. She has a background working with children and adults who have histories of abuse and trauma.

Deborah takes great joy in working with infants (ages 0-5) and their caregivers, and seeing the resiliency build as their caregiver gains confidence and understanding. Deborah has extensive training in play therapy and attachment-based therapy approaches. Deborah enjoys sharing her love of the spirit of children and attachment-based parenting through teaching and supervising practitioners in their clinical work.

She is an experienced and energetic presenter and presents to parents and professionals both locally and internationally.
