Melissa Keen, Co-founder of Thyroid BC

In 2006, Melissa Keen was diagnosed with metastatic papillary thyroid cancer. She was treated with a thyroidectomy and radioactive iodine. Following this all seemed well. Today, she has survived 4 recurrences and more treatment. As a survivor of this disease, Melissa searched for ways to connect with others who were experiencing the same through sharing her story.

About Her Talk

Melissa is a mother of two and co-founder of Thyroid BC. Today, she is cancer free and is creating awareness towards thyroid cancer and disease.

Embracing life’s challenges and cancer in particular has enabled Melissa to find ways to detoxify her life of stress and energy sucking situations. While marriage and motherhood is a full time job in itself, Melissa knows there are more dreams for her to pursue in life. Not entirely knowing how cancer would affect her, she carried on.

Cancer was the wake up call that she needed to live life to the fullest with her family and friends. Today, she is now thriving and is taking steps to help others like her connect and support one another through her organization Thyroid BC.

Life has a funny way of blessing you with its greatest gifts, even when it all feels like too much to endure.

“Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much” – Helen Keller. @angelataryn little did I know that our separate life journeys would lead us to each other. Over the past couple years, as our thyroid cancers have continued to evolve, I am so proud to call you my friend and fellow #cancerasskicker #strongmama #thriver ❤ In just a few more days, we will be embarking on a purposeful mission that we only dreamed about. Our common goal has always been to create community and support for others who suffer from thyroid cancer/ disease. Our vision is coming to life. And, my hope is that as we further grow together, we will continue to thrive and support one another through our mission. @thyroid.bc
